The Friends of Lethbridge Public Library pursue any number of initiatives in a given year. Some, such as book & DVD sales, require volunteers and are described in detail under “Volunteer Activities”.
Other initiatives are means toward advancing our object “ to publicize and promote Library services and advocate the Library’s mission”.
The Friends frequently attend City Council meetings when the Library makes presentations about its work and about budget requests. Reminding elected officials and administrative staff that a group of taxpayers actively supports the Library is good advocacy.
In 2013 the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library in concert with the Friends of the Galt Museum and Archives hosted a well attended Meet and Greet event at the Library that gave city residents an opportunity to discuss issues with those individuals running for Mayor and City Council.
In 2015 the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library pursued an initiative called Membership Plus. During the month of October, National Library month, anyone purchasing an annual membership at The Galt Museum and Archives, Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG) or Casa received a Lethbridge Public Library borrowing card at no additional expense (library cards have been free for all residents in more recent years).
You can add your name to the Friends’ e-mail list to receive a bi-monthly link to Happening that lists all the activities occurring at the Library over a two month interval. Please click “contact” at the top of this website and add your e-mail on the left hand side of the form.
